The Avrocar While the Arrow was awaiting the cutting torches, Avro was continuing work on a nove! project, the VZ-9Z Avrocar. This was a flying saucer-like aircraft, the result of research Avro had been doing into VTOL since 195}. Cttawa had at fiist backed the research, then both the USAF and U.S. Army came in to provide support. Two Avrocars were built to research near-the-ground air cushion flight, level flight using the aerodynamics of the circular wing, and hovering at higher altitudes....
